VAN's published maize programme runs across five stages and six nutrient bands. It is the heaviest of the three pilot crops on nitrogen, and it splits the land-preparation nitrogen between coated and commodity urea. Everything below is transcribed from the published plan, which is titled "Corn".

Products in this programme

How each method is applied

BroadcastingSpread evenly over the soil surface, before or at sowing, and worked in by tillage or by the first irrigation.
PlacementLaid in the furrow or band at sowing, so the nutrient sits where the young root system will reach it rather than across the whole field.
Side dressingApplied along the row of a standing crop after establishment, then irrigated in.
FertigationDissolved and delivered through the irrigation water, so the dose arrives with the water at the stage it is needed.
SprayDissolved and sprayed onto the leaf, for nutrients the crop can take up through the foliage.

One product rule overrides the table: Vital Urea is a coated slow-release urea and is applied by broadcasting, side dressing or drilling — never by fertigation. Every Vital Urea row in the plans below complies with that; the fertigation rows in the nitrogen band are commodity urea, which is a different material.

What this plan does not tell you

These are per-acre programmes, not a prescription for your field. A nutrition plan is built on a typical crop and a typical soil. It is not a substitute for a soil test, and the rates are not adjusted here for what your own soil already holds.

No yield figure appears on this page. We publish what to apply, at which stage, by which method. We do not attach a yield percentage to it, because that would need a named trial we can point you at.

This programme is indicative. It is built on best practice and on the nutrient requirement of the crop — not on your field. Notes on this plan

Read alongside the plan
  • The plan is titled "Corn". The site uses "Maize (Corn)"; the downloadable PDF keeps its published name.
  • The phosphate is named under its current registration. The 2025 plan prints "V Ammonium Phosphate" and the old 12.44.0 analysis; VAN re-registered it in July 2026 as V-Phosphate 10-44-0 under licence CM/L-4297/2026, and that is what this page and the reissued plan sheet carry.
  • No foliar band. Unlike wheat, the maize plan schedules nothing in the foliar row — that is how the source plan is drawn, not an omission here.
  • VL-Boron is applied "Foliar or Fertigation" — the only cell in the three pilot crops that offers a choice of method.
